Heavier traffic observed amid EDSA Kamuning flyover closure

Heavier traffic greeted motorists on Thursday following the closure of the southbound lanes of EDSA Kamuning flyover, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

“Una, nakita po natin na marami pa rin po sa ating motorista ang pinipili yung service road, so nagkakaroon pa rin po ng clog up dito po sa service road,” MMDA chairperson Romando Artes told Unang Balita in an interview.

(First, we have seen that many of our motorists still choose the service road, so there is still a clog up here on the service road.)

Due to this, Artes said the agency will implement adjustments including displaying more signages and deploying more enforcers to guide motorists to other alternate routes.

“Isa sa mga adjustment po natin ay magdagdag ng mga additional signages at mga enforcers para to ensure na ma-disperse yung volume ng vehicles papunta po sa mga alternatibong ruta at huwag po dito magsiksikan sa service road,” Artes said.

(One of our adjustments is to add additional signages and enforcers to ensure that the volume of vehicles is dispersed to alternative routes and not to crowd the service road.)

Motorcycle riders will also no longer be allowed to use the service road and are advised to use other alternative routes.

Aside from the service road, the MMDA earlier advised concerned motorists of several available alternate routes in light of the closure of the flyover:

  • From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (SB), motorists can make a right turn to Panay Avenue, left turn to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, left turn to Timog Avenue, and then right turn to EDSA Service Road.

  • Motorists can also make a right turn to Mo. Ignacia Avenue from EDSA/Quezon Avenue (SB), left turn to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, left turn to Timog Avenue, and then right turn to EDSA Service Road.

  • From EDSA/Quezon Avenue (SB), motorists can make a right turn to Eugenio Lopez Jr. Drive or Scout Borromeo, left turn to Sgt. Esguerra Avenue, left turn to Timog Avenue, and then right turn to EDSA Service Road.
