Manila gov't sprays water on España Blvd. amid extreme heat

Water tankers deployed by the Manila City government on Wednesday sprayed water along España Boulevard to alleviate the heat.

According to state weather bureau PAGASA, more parts of the Philippines may have to endure the blistering heat as it sees heat index spiking between 45°C and 54.8°C in May

Heat index is the measure of the temperature that a person feels, which is different from the actual air temperature. It is computed by factoring in the humidity and the air temperature.

Thirty-five areas in the country are expected to have dangerous levels of heat index on Wednesday, according to PAGASA's monitoring.

Due to the extreme heat, the Manila City government, in accordance with Executive Order No. 22 s. 2024, has adjusted the working hours in the city to 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Thursday, May 2.

"With this, the Manila Health Department advised the public that working hours of all 44 health centers in the city would be adjusted to 7AM to 4PM every weekday and advise the public to register in their facilities before 6AM to promptly receive their services at 7AM," the city government said on Facebook.

Parks Development Office has also advised its park visitors of the new operating hours of Arroceros Forest Park and Paraiso ng Batang Maynila of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
