Sales Road deep hole in Pasay repaired, says MMDA

The deep hole that was discovered on Sales Road in Pasay City over the weekend has already been covered, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

The almost-10-foot deep hole was located on the eastbound direction of Sales Road between Gates 4 and 2 of Villamor Air Base.

The Department of Public Works and Highways said the hole has already been cemented. After the cement has dried, asphalt will be poured over it, according to a report on Unang Balita on Wednesday.

The MMDA said the affected area of Sales Road is expected to be opened to motorists on Wednesday afternoon.

They temporarily opened the westbound lane for motorists heading east while repair was ongoing to fix the hole.

A busted water pipe of Maynilad Water Services Inc. caused the ground to soften, leading to the incident, authorities said.

On Sunday, the hole was initially observed at 6 a.m. as something small with cracks.

The small hole quickly developed into a 3-meter crater that was 10-feet deep.

The MMDA temporarily closed the affected lane so repairs could be made.

Maynilad arrived at around 2 p.m. to shut the water valve to avoid further water leaks, while authorities used a vacuum truck to remove water from the hole and determine the source of the water leak.

Authorities also checked if the hole affected the integrity of the Skyway's foundation.

MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said Monday that so far the Skyway is safe. —KG, GMA Integrated News
