Chavit Singson's convoy receives violation ticket after using EDSA busway

The convoy of former Ilocos Sur governor Luis “Chavit” Singson on Monday received a violation ticket after getting caught using the EDSA busway, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

Singson was inside of one of the vehicles, according to a report of Allan Gatus on Super Radyo dzBB.

“Tayo naman po, we are just enforcing kung ano po 'yung tama. As long as you are not authorized to use the bus lane talagang huhulihin po natin 'yan. We have to be fair. We have to implement what is right po,” MMDA special operations group - strike force head Gabriel Go said.

(We are just enforcing what is right. As long as you are not authorized to use the bus lane, we will definitely apprehend you. We have to be fair. We have to implement what is right.)

According to Go, Singson did not resist receiving the violation ticket.

GMA News Online sought comment from Singson on the matter but he has yet to provide a statement as of posting time.

Starting November 2023, motorists who use the EDSA bus lane will face stiffer penalties of up to P30,000.

Under MMDA Regulation No. 23-002, the increased fines for the violation for both public and private vehicles are:

  • First offense – P5,000
  • Second offense – P10,000 plus one month suspension of driver’s license, and required to undergo a road safety seminar
  • Third offense – P20,000 plus one year suspension of driver’s license
  • Fourth offense – P30,000 plus recommendation to Land Transportation Office for revocation of driver’s license.
