Burglar carts away senior citizen's bag with cash from Tondo home

A burglar was caught on camera while breaking into a senior citizen’s home in Tondo, Manila and stealing a bag containing up to P20,000 cash.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Oscar Oida on Friday, CCTV footage showed a man climbing up the stairs at around 3 p.m. on Thursday.

He was seen approaching a bag and looking around the home before leaving.

“Pagpasok ko dito, may nakita akong tao doon. May bitbit na siyang bag tapos inikot ko muna yung paligid. May nakita ako dito, bag sa upuan na parang kinalkal na niya tapos lumabas na po ako [at] tinawag ko tiyahin ko. Sabi ko may tao sa loob ng bahay niyo,” said Rodarose Devera.

(When I entered, I saw someone over there. He was carrying a bag, then I observed everything first. I saw a bag here that seemed like it was searched, then I went out [and] called my aunt. I told her there was someone in the house)

The 76-year-old victim, Epifania Timtim, said that the stolen amount of P20,000 was a loan and was intended for her business and for her bedridden husband.

“Di ko pa nga nahuhulugan kasi yung asawa ko bedridden na. Magastos sa diaper [at] sa gamot. Sana nga po mahuli siya para mapagbayaran niya yung ginagawa niya,” said Timtim.

(I haven’t started paying for the loan yet because my husband is already bedridden. His diapers [and] medicines are costly. I hope [the suspect] gets caught so he can pay for what he’s done)

Authorities of Barangay 157 in Tondo, Manila said they have identified the suspect, who remains at large.

“Alam niyo kasi yang tao na yan, e siyempre drug dependent yan kaya kahit walang kasama yan lumalakad mag-isa yan. Ilang beses na rin nakulong. Makukuha't makukuha namin yan, ‘yan ang pinapangako ko,” said barangay official Ernesto de Leon.

(You know this person, of course he’s drug dependent so even if he didn’t have an accomplice he would proceed on his own. He’s already been jailed multiple times. We will get it, that's what I promise.) — Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
