MMDA to impose fines vs 2 contractors after unfinished EDSA projects cause heavy traffic

Two contractors are facing fines after they failed to complete their projects along EDSA that caused heavy traffic along the major thoroughfare, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said Monday.

MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said that based on the agreement, the two contractors should have finished the projects early morning on Monday, Super Radyo dzBB’s Glen Juego reported.

But only 24 of the 40 excavations intended for fiber optic installations along EDSA have been completed so far.

Citing the explanation of the contractors, Artes said there was a delay in the project because of a mistake in the logistics schedule for the delivery of cement.

Artes lamented that the excavations were just abandoned and MMDA traffic cones were used to cover them.

The MMDA has yet to determine the total amount of the fines against the contractors but around P50,000 will be charged per excavation, Artes said.—Joviland Rita/RF, GMA Integrated News
