Manila LGU declares half-day work, classes on Holy Wednesday

Manila City has declared half-day classes in public and private schools and half-day work for government employees on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on Tuesday, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuña signed Executive Order No. 8, Series of 2024, for half-day classes and work on Mar. 27 to allow the celebration of the Holy Week.

“Whereas, to provide Manileños the full opportunity to properly observe the Semana Santa when families gather together for special meals, go to church for Easter vigils and mass, renew and recollect on their faith, spend time with their fellow religious and show their devotion to the Catholic Church, it is proper to give them enough time to prepare for the events leading to the observance of their remembrance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” read the order.

The order shall apply to both face-to-face and online classes and work in city government offices.

Meanwhile, city government offices related to the administration of emergency response services will remain open.

The Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the Department of Engineering and Public Works, the Department of public Offices, the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, the Manila Health Department, six city hospitals and other city agencies delivering basic and health services will also remain operational.

Private offices may follow the order upon their own discretion. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
