Coconut oil leak from tanker crash triggers motorcycle mishaps along SLEX

A tanker truck plying the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) crashed onto a concrete post, causing its coconut oil cargo to leak and lead to multiple motorcycle accidents on Saturday morning.

According to a Super Radyo DZBB report by Mao Dela Cruz, the truck mishap happened at 8:10 a.m. in Pasay City.

The vehicle, with plate number UKS170, was traversing the southbound lane of the expressway when it collided with a concrete post at the Skyway ground level, which caused an oil spill on both lanes.

Multiple motorcycles reportedly skidded and crashed due to the oil spill, based on interviews with responders posted by Super Radyo dzBB on X (formerly Twitter). Several injured riders were taken to a healthcare facility in Villamor Air Base.

Super Radyo dzBB video showed an ambulance on the scene, which responders said was carrying two injured motorcycle riders.

"Etong dalawa, 'yung Army at nagmo-motor. Sumemplang. 'Yung isa po tumama 'yung ulo (These two, one from the Army and the rider. Their motorcycle skidded and crashed. One of them got hit on the head)," a responder in Navy uniform said. Their injuries included a concussion to the forehead and a laceration to the eyebrow area.

Police assisted in directing traffic and attending to injured victims.

SPD Director Police Brigadier General Mark Pespes identified the driver as Bernie Rivas, a resident of Muntinlupa City.

Super Radyo dzBB showed video of traffic buildup in the area on Saturday morning, although both lanes were already reported as passable just before noon.

The SPD is currently investigating the incident. — Jamil Santos/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
