Parts of EDSA to be used for People Power anniv activities —MMDA

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday advised motorists to look for alternative routes as some lanes on EDSA will be used for the celebration of the People Power Revolution anniversary on Sunday.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, MMDA said a zipper lane will be set up starting midnight along the People Power monument where an activity is scheduled to take place.

"Mamayang 12:00 midnight, magsi-zipper lane na kami sa People Power Monument kasi magse-setup na dun, kasi magkakaroon ng parang mini-concert," said MMDA Traffic Enforcement group director Atty. Victor Nuñez.

"Dun sa may White Plains palabas going to EDSA, sa Sunday, dun ang activity," he added.

The Philippine National Police earlier said that around 8,500 cops will be deployed to secure the conduct of rallies in the National Capital Region and Cebu on the anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

In Manila, the protest will be held near the EDSA Shrine on February 25 at 3 p.m., according to Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan).

MMDA, meanwhile, asked organizers to use only one lane for their activities.

"Sa mga grupong magma-martsa, umaapela kami sana na isang lane lang ang sakupin," Nuñez said.

This year marks the 38th anniversary of the bloodless uprising that ended the reign of the late President Ferdinand Marcos Sr. and catapulted Corazon Aquino to the presidency.

"Sa Sunday, full force kami dahil may laro rin ang Gilas Pilipinas sa PhilSports Arena sa Pasig City kasabay ng anibersaryo ng EDSA People Power Revolution... Full force kami this weekend, this Sabado and Linggo," said Nuñez. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
