Rider dies as motorcycle crashes into car in Pasig
A collision between a motorcycle and a multi-purpose vehicle or MPV on Tuesday morning left a rider dead in Pasig City.
Due to the force of the impact, the rider landed on the hood of the vehicle.
Traffic turned heavy after the mishap as motorists passed by the crime scene along Amang Rodriguez Avenue.
It took more than three hours for the authorities to clear the area as the report of the incident to the police came in late.
"In 12 years of service, ngayon lang ako nakakita na naiwan sa hood (In 12 years of service, it's my first time to see the body of the victim on top of the hood)," said traffic enforcer Jamsel Cuyson.
A friend of the rider who rushed to the scene told GMA Integrated News: "Galing pa ho siya ng Ortigas naghatid ng anak nya 'yung nagtatrabaho. Tapos pauwi na ho 'yan. 'Yan ang nangyari."
(The victim came from Ortigas, he brought his child to work. He was on his way home. That's what happened.)
A security camera in the area captured the moment of impact.
"Parang bomba (It was like a bomb went off)," said a witness who described the loud sound created by the collision.
The CCTV footage showed the motorcycle traversing Amang Rodriguez Avenue past seven in the morning when the MPV, on the opposite lane, turned left. The two vehicles then collided.
"Nagulat itong (biktima) na hindi niya inaasahan siguro na itong (MPV) ay kakaliwa kaya hindi siya nakapag-react makapag preno," said Police Major Loreto Tigno of the Pasig City police.
(The victim was surprised. He didn't expect the MPV to turn left so he wasn't able to react, he wasn't able to stop.)
The police are preparing to file charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property charges against the driver, who was under police custody as of late Tuesday afternoon.
