Makati's Binay credits investments in learning for BNAHS' 2022 PISA passing mark

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay said that the Benigno Ninoy Aquino High School's (BNAHS') exceptional performance in the 2022 Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) was due to the city's investments in innovative learning interventions.

“Considering that there had been no face-to-face classes for over two years when the test was conducted, this achievement speaks volumes of the success of Makati’s innovative and inclusive programs for our public-school students,” Binay said in a Tuesday press release.

The BNAHS was the only public school in Metro Manila which scored above the minimum proficiency level in the PISA 2022 global comprehension survey.

Binay said that before the COVID-19 pandemic, the city invested P31 million to fully implement Project MILES (Mathematics Intensive Learning Enhancement for Students) for Grades 1 to 10 during School Year 2019-2020.

The city government and the Department of Education-Makati jointly focused on developing, digitizing, and printing local learning materials that were made available to the students for their online classes and asynchronous learning sessions.

Further, the local government equipped teachers with laptops and internet loads to facilitate online classes.

“This achievement is a clear validation of the sound investments that Makati has made in modernizing the public school system,'' Binay said.

The Makati Mayor added that the city would pursue more innovations and continue to collaborate with DepEd Makati, especially in developing local learning materials suited to the needs of public-school children.

There would also be continuous assessment of all grade levels.

According to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, which conducts the student assessment, the 2022 PISA covered reading, mathematics, and science.

It also evaluated students' creative thinking and financial literary skills. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
