Passengers may avail of free rides in Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) and Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT2) in celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday.

In a statement, the DOTr said the free rides are open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. only.

DOTr warning to public

The DOTr, meanwhile, said the "12-month free subway rides card" being offered on social media is a scam.

Due to this, the DOTr warned the public against fake offers of free rides from unofficial social media accounts, James Agustin reported on GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita on Wednesday.

“DOTr and  [AF Payments Inc.] have not authorized any sales of any '12 Month Free Subway Rides Card'," the DOTr said in a public advisory.

"The public is advised to refer only to officially recognized communication channels, including verified social media accounts and official websites," it added.

According to the DOTr, the "Manila Metro" Facebook page is not an official account of the DOTr or any of its attached agencies and does not represent the owner of Beep cards AF Payments Inc.

"DOTr advises the public to exercise caution when engaging with suspicious social media accounts misrepresenting as official government agencies," it said.

"DOTr and its agencies reserve the right to take appropriate legal action against individuals or entities engaged in fraudulent activities, including the unauthorized use of its name or likeness for deceptive purposes," it added. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
