Pasig City distributes emergency go bags to residents
The Pasig City local government has kickstarted the distribution of emergency go bags to households.
According to a video posted by the LGU on Facebook, the Pasig Go Bag is a project led by the Pasig City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), with each family in the city to be provided with a waterproof emergency bag equipped with necessary items in case of disaster or sudden evacuation.
“Kami po sa DRRMO ay nandito po para tulungan po kayo. Ang aim po natin sa Go Bag kasi is mabigyan ang kada pamilyang Pasigueño ng ating Go Bag para sa disaster preparedness sa paghahanda sa mga sakunang maaaring dumating sa atin,” said Pasig City DRRMO chief Bryant Wong.
(We at DRRMO are here to help you. Our aim is to provide each Pasigueño family with our Go Bag for disaster preparedness to prepare for any possible catastrophe that may happen.)
The Pasig City Go Bag includes a non-electric and non-battery-operated glow stick; a whistle; a rechargeable flashlight that can be charged by squeezing the handle; a thermal blanket; a ziplock bag for important documents and a disaster-preparedness booklet that have necessary hotlines and a QR code for guidance.
It also includes a first-aid kit in a hard case, containing alcohol pads, povidone iodine for wounds, cotton balls, gauze, medical tape, several types of bandages, and heavy-duty scissors.
The items are packed in a large, waterproof bag that can double as a floatation device.
“Ito ay magiging isang hakbang natin tungo sa emergency preparedness. Ayaw natin mangyari ang anumang sakuna. Lagi tayong nagdadasal na di magkalindol, di magkasunog pero mas mabuti na handa tayo,” said Pasig City mayor Vico Sotto in a flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday.
(This will be a step towards emergency preparedness. We don’t want any catastrophe to happen. We always pray that there would be no earthquake or fire, but it would be better if we were ready)
He also reiterated that only one bag will be given per Pasig City family, and asked residents for honesty and cooperation in the distribution.
“Dapat po ang bawa’t isa satin ay maging honest, may integridad po ang bawa’t isa satin. Sana po walang kukuha ng higit sa isa. Hangga’t maaari ay isa [lang na bag] kada pamilya lang po. Maging honest po tayo bilang Pasigueño,” Sotto added.
(Each one of us should be honest, and have integrity. Hopefully, no one will get more than one. As much as possible, one [bag only] for every family. Let’s be honest as a Pasigueño)
Meanwhile, the city’s next project includes the provision of hard hats and whistles for Pasig City schools and Employee Emergency Go Bags for employees of the City Hall. — Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/BM, GMA Integrated News
