The leader of a criminal group and one of the most wanted criminals in the Bicol Region reportedly died during an armed encounter with the police in Parañaque City.

According to a "Saksi" report by John Consulta on Thursday, primary target Gilbert Concepcion, who led the Concepcion Criminal Group, died after what should have been just a surveillance operation turned into a gunfight.

“Nakipag-usap na makikipagkita sa kamaganak nun na asset natin nang nabigla nalang dahil sa presence of armed men. And so they immediately withdrew such… Our tactical team [was] ready na doon as back up and then they scoped down the area,” said NCRPO chief Police Major General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

Three guns and ammunition were recovered from the scene of the crime.

Concepcion, a former army personnel who went AWOL, was a notorious criminal involved in over 100 deaths in different parts of the country.

According to the police, his crime group has more than 10 outstanding warrants of arrest.

“Si Gilbert is [a] regular member ng CPP-PNP operating in Albay. Sumurrender siya [at] narecruit siya as member ng Philippine Army, kaya lang yung kaniyang training na nakuha sa pagiging member ng Philippine Army yun yung ginamit niya nung nag-AWOL siya,” said PNP Southern Luzon Commander Police Lieutenant General Rhoderick Armamento.

“His group, together with his brothers, were involved in series of robberies, extortions, abductions, rape, gun running, gun-for-hire activities and he is also being employed as a partisan armed group by a local politician. He is so notorious that he is also responsible for the killing of his own father,” added PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr.
