Shooting suspect hurt after attempting to elude cops

A suspect in a shooting incident that killed a senior citizen and injured a four-year-old boy in Novaliches last year was in critical condition after attempting to escape arrest in Quezon City.

Suspect Fredmark Gicana sustained injuries after figuring in a motorcycle accident while trying to flee from members of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) at a checkpoint along Commonwealth Avenue.

Gicana allegedly went into hiding following a shootout with the police during a buy-bust operation in Novaliches.

“Na-flag down namin yung tao, pero bigla siyang tumakbo,” said QCPD Station 5 Commander Police Colonel Rusty Damaso in Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras” on Thursday.

(We flagged him, but he ran away.)

“After nang pagtakbo niya, mga 100 to 200 meters tumumba siya, then in-apprehend namin. Dun nakita namin na he is in possession ng firearms,” he said.

(He fell after running for at least 100 to 200 meters away from us. We arrested him and saw that he had illegal firearms.)

Gicana will be facing multiple charges, including illegal possession of firearms, according to Damaso.

“Illegal possession of firearms, member din ng criminal gang, saka drug pusher. Andami rin niyang warrant,” he said.
