Former TV host Robert Alejandro, who is fighting cancer, allegedly loses up to P3-M to caregiver

Former TV host Robert Alejandro, who has been battling colon cancer for some time, has lost his savings worth about P3 million.

In the report of Jonathan Andal on "Unang Balita," initial investigation showed that his caregiver used Alejandro's phone to send money to agents of e-sabong.

"Nagpapasalamat ako na buhay pa ako (I am thankful that I am still alive)," said Alejandro, who became emotional as he related his experience.

He was also known as "Kuya Robert" as host of "Art is Kool" show on GMA Network.

Alejandro has been fighting colon cancer for eight years and now has to deal with the loss of his life savings that was allegedly stolen by his caregiver.

"Nakikita naman niya yung kalagayan ko. Yung hirap na hirap kami mabuhay, tapos ito ang gagawin. Kailangan ko iyon para sa ospital, ganun. Buti kung healthy pa ako, pwede pa ako magtrabaho para mag-ipon pa," he said.

(He saw the state I was in. We are having a difficult time trying to live, and this is what was done to us. I need the money for my hospitalization. If I am still healthy, I can work to save money.)

He found out he lost his savings last December 17.

The bank said all the transactions were from his cellphone.

It is Alejandro's suspicion that the caregiver uses his cellphone while he was sleeping.

Alejandro has sought assistance from the police and based on initial investigation the money is sent to agents of e-sabong.

Police Captain Anthony Dacquel, Quezon City Police District 14 chief investigator, said they located the number and they confirmed that the suspect sends them the money and in turn they load the e-sabong account of the suspect.

The caregiver, identified by the police as Deo Angeles, has been working at the Alejandro household for only two months.

"Gusto kong sabihin sa kanya, huwag na niyang gawin 'to. Hindi lang siya kumukuha ng pera kundi pati yung buhay ng kanyang dapat alagaan. Napakasama," said Alejandro.

(I want to tell him to stop what he is doing. He is not only getting money from those he is supposed to care for, he is also stealing a life. It's evil.)
