Metro Manila has slowest travel time among 55 countries -study
According to TomTom, a Dutch navigation and digital mapping group, Metro Manila had the slowest travel time among 387 metropolitan areas in 55 countries, James Agustin reported Friday on Balitanghali.
According to the 2023 TomTom study, it would take 25 minutes and 30 seconds to drive a vehicle 10 kilometers in the metro area around Manila.
"The data suggests that the average time it took to travel 10 kilometers increased by 50 seconds," said TomTom.
Meanwhile, Manila's city center ranked ninth in the world in travel time length.
The data said that the average time it took to travel 10 kilometers in Manila's city center increased by 20 seconds to 27 minutes and 20 seconds.
"Travel times and speeds are based on worldwide trip data spanning 551 billion (109) km anonymously collected during the year from drivers within the larger metropolitan area (“metro”) or a 5 km radius from the center (“city center”) throughout the complete road network — including fast roads and highways crossing this area," TomTom explained in the study.
It noted that among Metro Manila's rush hour periods, Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. was the worst.
"Driving 10 kilometers took an average of 35 minutes and 30 seconds," it explained. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
