Kissing Black Nazarene image still not allowed in annual 'pahalik'
Kissing the image of the Black Nazarene is still prohibited when the traditional "pahalik" starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
According to Vonne Aquino's report on "24 Oras," devotees will only be allowed to wipe their handkerchiefs or hand towels on the image.
The traditional kissing of the image while it is at the Quirino Grandstand before the Traslacion was prohibited during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.
It was changed to “Pagpupugay” during which devotees were only allowed to look at the Black Nazarene.
When the Pahalik returned in 2023, devotees were allowed to touch the Black Nazarene using a towel or handkerchief.
The Quirino Grandstand is currently being prepared for the Black Nazarene Pahalik, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Authorities have begun to install lights and sound systems, as well as barriers and markers for lines courtesy of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority.
“Tuluy-tuloy po itong pagbabantay natin dito po sa Quiapo, at saka siyempre sa mga susunod na araw diyan naman sa Quirino Grandstand,” Manila Police District Director Police Colonel Arnold Thomas Ibay said.
Mass for volunteers will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
On Monday, the Panalangin sa Takipsilim will be at 5:30 p.m., followed by a vigil and program at 6:00 p.m.
At 12:00 noon on January 9, a Misa Mayor or Solemn Mass will be conducted before the continuation of the vigil. —Jiselle Anne Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
