Security in Quiapo tightened ahead of 2024 Translacion

Security measures around the Quiapo Church were being strengthened ahead of the Traslacion on January 9.

According to a 24 Oras report by Maki Pulido on Tuesday, steel fences were placed around Plaza Miranda for crowd control as the entrance to the Church remained at Villalobos Street.

Cracks and holes in the pavement along the procession route were filled, while vendors were being asked to leave to minimize obstacles.

“Sa tulong po ninyo, gawin nating banal, ligtas at maayos ang Nazareno 2024,” said Quiapo Church Spokesperson Father Hans Magdurulang.
In the interest of security, mobile signals at the route and near Quiapo Church may also be jammed.

The Philippine National Police reminded devotees that backpacks, ballcaps, liquid canisters, and sharp objects were not allowed during the procession.

Raincoats were encouraged for use in case of rain on the day of the procession as umbrellas were not allowed.

“Hindi natin inaasahan kung sa bag yan mahulog may makakaapak magkakaroon ng injury," said Plaza Miranda PCP Commander Police Captain Roel Robles.

Persons with disabilities and illnesses were also discouraged from participating.

The “pahalik” will commence on January 6 following a 6 p.m. Mass, while a blessing of Black Nazarene replicas will be held at 1:30 p.m. on January 3 to 4.

This will be followed by a short procession along Carriedo, Avenida, and Quezon Boulevard.

The January 9 procession will start at the Luneta Grandstand after a 4 a.m. Mass. — Jiselle Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
