Bank camera showed SUV repeatedly ramming counter

The sport utility vehicle (SUV) which crashed into a commercial bank in Quezon City repeatedly rammed the teller counter, moving back and forth as individuals were nearby, CCTV footage showed.

In a 24 Oras report on Friday, the SUV was seen reversing in the parking lot before crashing through the bank doors at a high speed.

Bank tellers were seen abruptly leaving their desks as the SUV approached the counter.

At least one person was seen pinned to the wall as the SUV moved back and forth as it crushed the structure. Two people alighted from the SUV when it finally came to a halt.

In the wake of the incident, a bank client who was hit by the SUV died early Friday morning. Seven people suffered injuries in the incident, including bank clients, employees, and a security guard.

The Quezon City police found that the SUV had just hit an Asian utility vehicle in the parking area before crashing through the bank doors.

The SUV driver is set to undergo inquest proceedings and will be facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.

He has apologized for the incident.

"Nag-signal 'yung guard na i-atras ko 'yung sasakayan ko. Pagkatapos i-ganun ko, naatrasan pa. Hindi mapigilan 'yung sasakyan," the driver said.

(The guard signaled me to reverse the car. After I-, I bumped something in reverse. Then I lost control of the vehicle.)

"Tapos lagay ko naman sa ano, dumerecho na naman. Hanggang gan'un. Dumerecho sa humps. Ngayon, pumasok pa sa loob hanggang sa naaksidente 'yung mga tao sa loob. Naapakan ko 'yung accelerator, umatras pero di mapigilan 'yung sasakyan," he said.

(I put it in-, then the vehicle moved forward instead. It moved past the humps and crashed inside the bank. People got hurt. I stepped on the accelerator, it moved on reverse, but I couldn't control the vehicle.)

In a statement, BDO said it is coordinating with the proper authorities about the matter.

"BDO is closely coordinating with authorities regarding the incident at the bank's Novaliches-Lagro branch. The bank has provided medical attention to injured individuals and is committed to assisting them throughout their recovery journey. The safety of customers and bank personnel are of utmost priority," BDO said. — Sundy Mae Locus/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
