5 hurt after bus avoided police car on EDSA busway —DOTr

Five passengers were hurt when a bus crashed into a railing after it avoided a police car entering the EDSA busway on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The passengers were brought to the Labor Hospital as they sustained scratches and lumps, and also suffered from dizziness. They have already been discharged.

Captured in CCTV footage, the bus was seen traversing the EDSA busway when a police car suddenly appeared, entered the busway, and almost hit the bus.

The bus avoided the police car and hit the fence of Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) at Santolan Station southbound.

Due to this, the DOTr reminded motorists with vehicles authorized to use the EDSA busway to be careful and prioritize the safety of their passengers.

Starting November 13, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) imposed stiffer fines on unauthorized motorists using the busway.

The DOTr said the following vehicles are allowed to use the busway:

  • LTFRB-authorized buses for the EDSA busway route, including buses with special permits and/or franchises to operate on the EDSA busway route;
  • on-duty ambulances, fire trucks, and Philippine National Police (PNP) vehicles;
  • service vehicles performing their duties for the EDSA Busway Project, including but not limited to construction, security, janitorial, and maintenance services within the EDSA Busway; and
  • the following top officials: the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
