Traslacion committee plans glass case around Nazareno
With the traditional procession set to return on January 9, the new Traslacion committee plans to place a glass case around the over 400-year-old image of the Black Nazarene.
According to a 24 Oras report by Mariz Umali on Tuesday, preparations for the rush of devotees are being conducted as the procession returns after the three-year halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Nung nakaraan umabot ng halos 22 million dumagsa. Inaasahang aabot ng ganun or higit pa,” said Quiapo Church Parochial Vicar Father Jesus Madrid Jr.
The committee prepared to safeguard the image of the Black Nazarene from damage by placing a glass case around the image but left a portion of the cross outside for those who still wished to touch it.
“Iwas akyat ang mga tao o sumampa sa andas natatakpan kasi si Hesus. Historically noon wala namang umakyat o sumasampa. Gusto rin namin ligtas ang prusisyon tendency maapakan tulakan praktikal na dahilan. Maiwasan madumog masira ang imahen,” added Father Madrid.
The committee also inspected the procession route from the Quirino Grandstand to the Quiapo Church for hanging cables, branches, and open manholes.
Meanwhile, the Quiapo Church would hold a “Paghalik” at the Quirino Grandstand from January 6 until January 9 after the 6 p.m. Mass. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
