PITX records highest passenger count this holiday season at 204K on Dec. 23

More than 204,000 passengers flocked to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) on Saturday night ahead of the Christmas and New Year festivities.

PITX corporate affairs and government relations head Jason Salvador said that a total of 204,647 passengers used or passed through PITX on the night of December 23, based on a Super Radyo dzBB report of Mao dela Cruz.

This was the highest number of passengers logged in the terminal since December 15.

The PITX is expected to cater to 2.6 million passengers from December 15, 2023 to January 3, 2024.

No untoward incidents were recorded in the PITX so far.

PITX management earlier reminded passengers to travel light, and to make sure that pets are vaccinated and kept in cages.

The terminal said that they anticipate a decrease in travelers on Sunday, Christmas Eve, followed by an increase after Christmas.

Some bus firms, however, said that reservations for their trips were already full until January 2024.

Filipinos traditionally head for their hometowns for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

The Christmas long weekend was extended after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. declared Dec. 26, Tuesday, as a special non-working day to give Filipinos the "full opportunity to celebrate Christmas with their loved ones."

December 25 (Christmas Day) and December 30 (Rizal Day) are regular holidays, while December 31 is a special non-working day. —KG, GMA Integrated News
