Damaged Maynilad pipe floods Manila streets, dries faucets

A damaged Maynilad pipe caused huge amounts of water to spill onto the streets in Manila flooding Legarda Avenue and nearby communities.

According to Maki Pulido's report on "24 Oras," while the damage flooded city streets, it rendered many faucets dry as it affected 6,400 water service connections in 41 barangays in Manila.

The pipe burst at 3 a.m. on Wednesday and spilled water in front of the San Lorenzo Ruiz Catholic Center.

To address the problem, the eastbound lane of Legarda Avenue from Mendiola to Sta. Mesa was closed to traffic causing congestion in the area.

"Wala pa po kaming konkretong rason kung bakit, kung paano nangyari ito, could be sa tinatatawag na water pressure surge na nagko-cause ng pagbreak ng ilang mga tubio," said Ronaldo Padua, Vice President and Head Water Supply Division.

On Facebook, Maynilad said it was targeting to restore the water supply by 3 p.m. on Thursday.

Its water tankers will continue to provide assistance in the affected barangays— Barangay 383-384, 388, 390-408, 410-416, 430-431, 433-435, 457-461.

Maynilad said it could be sent a private message for requests for mobile water tanker delivery.
