French firm proposes cable car system for QC, Marikina, Pasig

A French company has proposed the deployment of cable cars to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila, the Quezon City government said in a Facebook post.

This developed after Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte met with French transport company POMA Group, which prepared a cable car concept for the metropolis based on consultations with the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

After its two-year study, the POMA Group found that it was feasible to establish a cable car corridor along the Marikina River, which straddles Marikina City, Quezon City, and Pasig City.

Upon completion, the cable car system will connect the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-2 station in Santolan and the Eastwood, Libis area through the upcoming Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-4.

The company was quoted as saying that the cable cars will ease the traffic grind in Metro Manila, with some 30,000 to 40,000 commuters experiencing faster travel.
