2 lolos nabbed for alleged rape of grandchildren

Authorities arrested two grandfathers who allegedly raped their grandchildren in separate operations in Metro Manila.

One is a 63-year-old wanted on eight counts of rape and child abuse against his 15-year-old grandchild, according to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras.”

The Northern Police District-Special Operations Unit nabbed the suspect in Caybiga, Caloocan.

The crime happened a year ago, but the victim was not able to report it immediately.

“Una nito siyempre, takot, dahil ang suspek may sense of authority, over the victim,” said Police Brigadier General Rizalito Gapas of the Northern Police District.

(First, of course, fear, because the suspect has a sense of authority over the victim.)

The suspect denied the crime. He said the victim's parents were just angry because they lost their home when he sold their house.

“Noong pinaalis ko po at nakalipat na sila, doon na po nagreklamo,” said the suspect.

(They filed a complaint after I asked them to leave.)

He said the complaint was just a made-up story by the family.

When asked if sexual intercourse took place, he replied, “Wala pa po.”

He said that he could not do it to his blood relative.

“Apo ko po, ‘yung (complainan). Siya ang humahalik sa 'kin. Hindi naman ako ang humahalik sa kanya, dahil siyempre, apo ko ‘yun, siyempre igagalang ko po ‘yon,” the supect added.

(She’s my grandchild. She is the one kissing me. I'm not the one kissing her, she’s my grandchild, and of course, I'll respect that.)

Meanwhile in Barangay Pineda, Pasig City, the Mobile Force Battalion of the Eastern Police District arrested a 61-year-old grandfather for statutory rape.

“Ang kanyang naging biktima, ay kanyang mismong apo, anak ng kanyang anak na lalaki. During the commission of the crime, ang bata is only 11 years old,” said Police Captain Jay Laila.

(His victim, was his grandchild, his son's daughter. During the commission of the crime, the child was only 11 years old.)

The suspect did not comment but based on the police investigation, he had been jailed before.

“Noong amin na pong makausap, napag-alaman namin namin na siya po ay nakulong na dati, sa kasong frustrated homicide,” Laila added.
