P40 M worth of 'smuggled' peking duck, other meat seized in Navotas

Authorities on Friday swooped down on a warehouse in Navotas City and seized around P40 million worth of allegedly smuggled peking duck and other meat, including some that are already expired.

According to a "24 Oras" report by Marisol Abdurahman, the Department of Agriculture (DA) launched an operation following reports that the meats are being sold online.

The seized items weighed around 130,000 kilos, the report said.  Some boxes are emitting a foul smell indicating rotting meat.

“Kung nakakaamoy lang mga camera natin… talagang pati cameraman masusuka dahil nakakasulasok yung amoy,” said Dennis Solomon from the DA Inspectorate and Enforcement team.

"Hindi na po din siya safe kainin, so eto po yung hindi dapat makarating sa hapag kainan ng mga Filipino,” he added.

The local government of Navotas has ordered the closure of the warehouse as the investigation continues.

The city planning office said the business permit of the warehouse allows it to be a dealer of frozen seafood.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
