2 reclamation projects in Pasay get go-signal for compliance

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ma. Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga said Wednesday that two Pasay City reclamation projects were given the go-sgnal to proceed after having complied with DENR's qualifications and requirements.

Earlier, the Philippine Reclamation Authority disclosed the greenlighting of two significant reclamation projects following a suspension order issued on August 11, 2023.

"There were several technical conferences called because there were some findings and observations. And after they complied with what was required, documentation-wise and then review-wise. The DENR actually submitted a report and they had in fact substantially complied,'' Loyzaga said during a Palace press briefing.

Loyzaga said a cumulative impact assessment was unertaken to determine the impact of these projects in terms of the fulfilment of the mandamus order by the DENR as the lead implementing agency.

According to the PRA, the DENR concluded that the following projects are fully aligned with Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) conditions: the  265- hectare Pasay Harbor City Reclamation Project and the 360-hectare Pasay Reclamation Project.

''These projects demonstrate adherence to PRA parameters outlined in EO 74 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations as per PRA AO 2019-4. Furthermore, the existing Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) between PRA and the Pasay City Local Government further solidify their compliance with regulatory frameworks,'' the PRA said in a separate statement.

To recall, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. suspended 20 of 21 reclamation projects in Manila Bay, pending the results of a cumulative impact assessment.
