Visitor finds name on memorial wall at Malabon Cemetery
What was supposed to be a solemn visit in a public cemetery in Malabon became a comic gathering after a family member found his name inscribed on the memorial wall of deceased persons.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Jonathan Andal, Jimmy Lauzon Jr. wanted to visit his the tomb of his father but like the other cemetery goers at the Tugatog public cemetery, he and his other relatives were allowed only up to the “wall of remembrance.”
The columbarium is currently undergoing renovation, the cemetery administration said.
The name written on the wall was Lauzon Jr. instead of Lauzon Sr., his father.
“Dapat po tatay ko yung nandyan. Dapat senior po yan, naging junior po. Ako yung junior po, kaya nagtatawanan kami ng ate ko, sabi ko ‘Ate, buhay pa ako. Bakit may lapida na?’” he said.
He said he intended to inform the Malabon City Hall on the mix-up.
Other visitors of the cemetery complained about not being able to get near the graves of their relatives.
“Sabi ko ‘nandoon yung buto, dito ka magtitirik?’” said a visitor.
Meanwhile, visitors in Sangandaan Public Cemetery complained about the unannounced removal of the remains of some dead.
“Dito yung anak ko, mayroon pa ngang rebulto yun. Tapos noong bumalik kami noong nakaraang taon wala na rito,” said Corazon Limpin, who is still looking for her child’s body.
“Parang masakit sa kalooban ng magulang. Pagpunta mo wala yung anak mo,” she added.
