Criminology student, alleged hazing victim, dies

A Criminology student who is believed to be a hazing victim has died in Quezon City, according to the report of Jhomer Apresto on Super Radyo dzBB.

Citing the Quezon City Police District, the report said the victim was identified as 25-year-old Ahldryn Bravante.

The hazing activities alleged took place in an abandoned building at the corner of Sto. Domingo Avenue and Calamba Street in Quezon City.

Based on a police report, the suspects were identified as Justine Artates, 20, Kyle Michael de Castro, 21, Lexer Angelo Manarpies, 20, and Mark Leo Andales, 20.

They are all now under police custody.

The report said at around 7 p.m. on Monday, the Manila Police District - Blumentritt Police Community Precinct received a call that Artatez and De Castro brought Bravante, who was unconscious, to Chinese General Hospital.

The two suspects, during a police interview, said that they were members of Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity. They also reportedly said that Bravante was a neophyte who underwent an initiation rite with the frat members.

After the initiation rite, the two said Bravante had difficulty in breathing and became unconscious, which prompted them to bring him to the hospital.

Bravante was declared dead on arrival at about 6:40 p.m

Based on cursory examination, Bravante sustained hematoma on both legs and marks of burned cigarette on his chest and both hands.

Quezon City Police District Forensic Unit’s SOCO team went to the area where the incident happened and collected six bottles of water as evidence.

Police took custody of Artatez and De Castro.

At 1:10 a.m. on Tuesday, police said the remaining suspects, Manarpies and Anadales, surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Quezon City Field Unit. —with Joviland Rita/BAP/KBK, GMA Integrated News
