Man killed after altercation with cop at QC bar
A man was killed after an altercation with a police officer at a bar in Quezon City on Tuesday.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Dano Tingcungco, a CCTV footage at around 4:30 a.m. showed that victim Chrismel Serioso was dragged out of a jeepney by a group of men and was beaten until he collapsed along Quirino Highway in Novaliches.
After an hour, the victim was taken to the hospital by a police mobile, but he was declared dead on arrival.
The report showed police arresting one of the men in the group identified as Patrolman Edwin Simbiling of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) who allegedly shot the victim.
According to an initial investigation by the Quezon City Police Department, Serioso and Simbiling got into a fight after the victim allegedly tried selling illegal drugs to the suspect.
“’Yung victim, may inoffer na something na illegal stuff sa pulis at yung pulis napikon at yun ang ugat ng kanilang pagtatalo. May narinig ang witness na drugs ang gustong ibenta ng victim. As a police officer, sa sarili niya, alam niyan na mali yung ginawa ng victim,” said Police Major Don Don Llapitan.
“Kung ako ay isang police officer as long as hindi ako anti drug operator, hindi pwedeng ikaw mismo ang manghuhuli diyan. Pwede kang tumawag ng backup o sa pinakamapit na station anti-illegal drugs sa area,” Llapitan added.
Police said no weapon or illegal drugs was recovered from the victim.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family is set to file charges against the suspect and the men in the video who attacked him.
The NCRPO has launched an investigation on the incident and is currently looking for the other suspects.
Simbiling is under the custody of the QCPD and has undergone inquest for murder.
