NBI seizes P74M worth of fake batteries, gadget accessories in Quiapo warehouse

The National Bureau of Investigation-NCR implemented a search warrant that resulted in the confiscation of over 74 million pesos worth of counterfeit batteries, chargers and other gadgets in a warehouse in Quiapo, Manila, according to an exclusive "24 Oras" report by John Consulta.

“Alam naman natin there were instances na merong mga sunog na sanhi nitong mga sumabog na chargers, batteries dahil counterfeit nga. Marami tayong naiwasang sakuna sa operation ng NBI-NCR,” said NBI-NCR Regional Director Attorney Rommel Vallejo.

The NBI-NCR, in partnership with the cell phone company, was able to authenticate the products through a check of the item’s serial number and packaging.

“Magbigay tayo ng warning sa ating buying public na huwag magpapadala sa mura. Makakamura nga kayo pero hindi tayo sigurado sa kalidad na pwede pa maging dahilan sa aksidente o sa sunog,” Vallejo said.

The owner of the warehouse will face charges for Trademark Infringement, which is a violation under the Intellectual Property Rights Law. — Jiselle Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
