BFP: Charges to be filed vs individuals accountable for Tandang Sora fire

The Bureau of Fire Protection said charges would be filed against those accountable for a Tandang Sora building fire that killed 15 people on Thursday morning.

In a Friday statement, the BFP said initial findings revealed that the exit and escape routes of the three-story building were reportedly blocked by parked vehicles.

The initial findings also revealed that the fire spread rapidly due to stockpiled textile and wooden construction materials on the second floor.

Further investigations were still being conducted on the incident.

“The BFP assures the public that charges will be filed against accountable individuals on the incident if evidence warrants,” read the official statement.

Meanwhile, the BFP issued a reminder that fire was still a major threat despite the weather.

“Even with the rainy season, destructive fire is still a real threat in our homes, and utmost vigilance and care is needed to prevent it from happening,” said the BFP.

Balitanghali reported earlier that an unregistered t-shirt printing business was using the building that caught fire.

A resident who survived the fire said multiple people, including a three-year-old girl, her mother, the printing company’s supervisor, and the business owner were left inside the burning building.

The fire began at 5:30 a.m. and was put out at 8:04 a.m. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
