QC police file alarm and scandal complaint vs ex-cop in road rage video

Police officers of the Quezon City Police District filed an alarm and scandal complaint against former police officer Wilfredo Gonzales, who recently went viral on social media after brandishing his gun at a cyclist during an altercation.

According to a 24 Oras report by Jun Veneracion, the QCPD policemen took the initiative after the cyclist declined to press charges against Gonzales.

“Ang pagbunot sa publiko ng baril na yun, pagkasa sa tao na nakikita ng maraming tao na nasa Quezon Avenue ay alarm and scandal,” said Quezon City Police Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III.

The PNP had confiscated Gonzales' weapon.

The Land Transportation Office also suspended Gonzales’ driver’s license and is opening a case to look into permanently revoking his license.

According to PNP records, Gonzales was allegedly dismissed in June 2018 due to a similar incident.

Meanwhile, Torre stated that the CCTV footage from the day of the incident showed that the cyclist was not pressured nor harassed at the QCPD Station 11 when he arrived to settle matters with Gonzales.

“Nagkamayan sila, inakbayan ni siklista si Mr. Gonzales, and I would like to believe na naghiwalay sila na walang samaan ng loob,” Torre said.

On the other hand, Attorney Raymond Fortun, who posted the viral video, encouraged the cyclist to press charges.

“Buo pa rin loob ng pamilya nila na hindi ituloy pagsampa ng kaso, yet I’m still hopeful in the coming days that there will be other people coming out from the government to support itong siklista na ito,” said Fortun.

Gonzales surrendered to the police on Sunday, though PNP Chief Benjamin Acordia Jr. launched an investigation into allegations that the QCPD had given Gonzales special treatment.

“Kung ang kapulisan ay mismong makikita na sila ang nagbibigay ng... protection to these kinds of actions, eh mukhang hindi maganda. We will not tolerate it,” Acordia said. — Jiselle Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
