MMDA to impose intermittent stops on some roads to give way to FIBA delegates, players

Intermittent stops will be implemented in some roads to give way to the arrival of delegates and players of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Basketball World Cup 2023, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Friday.

In a traffic advisory, the MMDA said the measure would affect EDSA, Kalayaan Avenue, Diokno Boulevard, Roxas Boulevard, Andrews Avenue, Sales Road, and other FIBA routes.

The MMDA said 1,303 personnel will be deployed in affected areas to manage traffic and guide motorists.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said around 4,400 security personnel would be deployed to secure the event, which will be held from August 25 to September 10.

Three Asian nations will host FIBA 2023: the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia.

The Philippines will specifically host participants from Africa, the Americas, Asia-Pacific, and Europe, with an expected total of 3,253 FIBA customer groups participating.

Games will be played in different areas, including the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

The opening ceremony and the opening games between Angola and Italy, and Philippines and the Dominican Republic at the Philippine Arena in Sta Maria, Bulacan will kick off the tournament. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
