1 dead, 2 hurt as cops shoot it out in Taguig police station
A police officer was killed while two other cops were injured after one of them allegedly ran amok at the headquarters of the Taguig City Police Station on Monday.
Police Executive Master Sergeant Heriberto Saguiped was declared dead on arrival after sustaining gunshot wounds from the shooting incident at the Community Affairs Section Office of the police station, Jhomer Apresto reported on dzBB’s Super Radyo.
Based on the initial information, suspect Police Chief Master Sergeant Alraquib Aguel and Saguiped had a heated argument, which allegedly resulted in Aguel running amok.
“Pumunta sila ng kitchen, nagtanong. From there, nagalit siya binunot niya 'yung kaniyang service firearm at nagkameron sila nang maigsing argument between him and Sergeant Saguiped,” Taguig CPS Chief Colonel Robert Baesa said in Marisol Abdurahmann’s “24 Oras” report.
(They went to the kitchen to talk. From there, Aguel drew his service firearm and had a heated altercation with Saguiped.)
The suspect allegedly shot Saguiped and Police Corporal Alison Sindac, who attempted to pacify the situation. A cop shot Aguel in fear the suspect might harm other police officers.
The injured PNP personnel were rushed to hospital. Sindac and Aguel are both in critical condition.
Baesa said they would file charges against the suspect.
Meanwhile, the Southern Police District (SPD) said the shootout was an isolated incident.
“Di naman ito palaging nangyayari pero meron sigurong dahilan 'yung ating suspek kung bakit niya nagawa ito. But nanghihinayan tayo dahil 'yung ating mga biktima ay magagaling na kapulisan. Magagaling sila na mga tao, mabubuti. Kaya sila naka-assign sa community affairs section,” SPD District Director Police Brigadier General Ricky Mariano said.
(This doesn’t usually happen. The suspect might have a reason for this. We’re sorry because the victims were competent and good natured. They were assigned to the Community Affairs Section for a reason.) — DVM, GMA Integrated News
