NBP shooting incident injures 9 PDLs; 2 dead bodies found

Two dead bodies were found while nine persons deprived of liberty (PDL) were injured after a shooting incident at the New Bilibid Prison.

According to Nico Waje's report on Unang Balita Wednesday, the incident took place last night in Quadrant 3 of the south area of the maximum security compound.

The shooting reportedly happened after a commotion between two members of Bahala na Gang and Batang City Jail. One of the PDLs allegedly took out a gun and started shooting, which injured nine people.

One person also reportedly died after being stabbed, but authorities have yet to confirm if this is connected to the shooting incident.

Six of the injured were taken to the NBP hospital and three were taken to the Muntinlupa Hospital.

Authorities then conducted a clearing operation and found a caliber 45 pistol. It is still unclear if the confiscated weapon was the one used during the shooting.

Septic Tank

A day before the shooting, NBP officials believed to have found a dead body inside a septic tank as they were looking for a PDL who had gone missing since July 15.

On Tuesday, a K-9 unit from the Philippine Coast Guard was brought in and detected a possible body inside the septic tank. Authorities are still waiting for the septic tank to be drained and confirm if indeed a body is inside.

NBP officials suspect that more than one body is inside. They are also still investigating if it is related to the shooting incident. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
