Riders seeking cover from rain under overpasses may be fined —MMDA
Motorcycle riders who take shelter under overpasses when it rains may be fined P1,000 for obstructing traffic, the Metro Manila Development Authority has said.
According to Tina Panganiban-Perez's report on "24 Oras," the MMDA warned riders that it was dangerous to stop under the pedestrian overpasses to seek cover from the rain.
Acting MMDA chairman Romando Artes said a rider under an overpass could be hit by another vehicle.
He also said that riders stopping under overpasses cause traffic congestion.
The MMDA said motorcycle riders that may instead stop at designated motorcycle lay-by areas in case of rain.
Artes said the MMDA would also talk with gasoline stations for the installation of tents at their premises for motorcycle riders to take shelter. —Jiselle Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
