Water service interruptions might be shorter than first announced –Maynilad

Water concessionaire Maynilad said there was a possibility the previously announced water service interruptions would begin later and would be shorter than first advised.

According to a 24 Oras report by Cedric Castillo on Tuesday, water taken from Ipo Dam, augmentation projects, and several treatment plants may increase the water supply for Maynila consumers.

Maynilad previously announced hours-long service interruptions starting July 12 as a result of the critical water level at the Angat Reservoir, which is responsible for 90% of Metro Manila’s water demand.

Water service interruptions had already been reported by consumers in Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Quezon City.

Meanwhile, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources reminded government offices to implement a previous directive that instructed offices to install rainwater harvesting facilities.

“Even the barangays are directed to do so. Merong roving team ang DENR na nage-agency to agency just to remind everyone,” DENR Undersecretary Carlos David said.

The Water Resources Management Office is set to release the President’s El Niño mitigation plans under the supervision of former DPWH Secretary and water management expert Rogelio Singson, including plans on how to utilize flood water as a possible water source. — Jiselle Casucian/DVM, GMA Integrated News
