Rain dance, cloud-seeding among programs to address water supply woes — MWSS

It has been three days that the water level of Angat Dam reservoir has been reported to be below the minimum operating level, which means the supply to clients would be affected.

The priority for the supply of water would be directed to domestic consumers in Metro Manila than to the irrigation of farm areas.

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has implemented programs to address the looming shortage of water supply, including the performance of a "Rain Dance" by the Dumagat-Remontado tribe.

GMA's Cedric Castillo reported on "24 Oras" that experts look to the environment, Science as well as culture and religious belief to address the present water situation.

Tribal leader Salvador Cruz said the people may have forgotten that we perform the rain dance. They pray for rain so that they have a good harvest.

MWSS Division Manager Engr. Patrick Dizon said the performance of the rain dance is one of the weather modification programs.

The agency also conducts cloud seeding operations.

"Hindi lang po tayo Science-based. It's a cultural and traditional-based din po tayo," said Dizon.

The water level at the Angat Reservoir is at 179 meters, which is lower than the minimum operating level of 180 meters. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
