Convicted British sex offender nabbed at NAIA
A British national wanted for sex crimes in his country was arrested by personnel of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
A statement by the BI said the 79-year-old foreigner was supposed to board a flight to Doha, Qatar. He arrived in the Philippines on May 16 and has since stayed as a tourist, Border Control and Intelligence Unit head Dennis Alcedo said.
Information received by the BI from the United Kingdom National Crime Agency said the man was "involved and convicted in crime of inciting or causing prostitution for gain involving a child 13 to 17 years."
The BI has started the deportation proceedings against the man, who is currently at a facility in Taguig.
“Sex offenders who might prey on our children are not welcome in the Philippines,” said BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said.
“These illegal aliens do not deserve our country’s hospitality, and will be sent out and blacklisted,” he added.—Jiselle Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
