Malabon City Jail detainees protest transfer of two ‘mayors’
A noise barrage took place at the Malabon City Jail on Friday as the detainees protested the transfer of two inmates they considered their "mayors."
According to Vonne Aquino's report on "24 Oras," the detainees even threw chairs, and broke windows.
The mother of the two detainees said she witnessed the situation of her children while being escorted out of the jail. Their faces turned red, and they were asking for help.
Relatives of the detainees also gathered outside the gate of the city jail compound.
The relatives asked authorities to make sure that everyone in the jail was safe and the detainees were not harmed.
Malabon Vice Mayor Bernardo dela Cruz rushed to the city jail to help calm the inmates.
He said the prisoners were asking for their warden's removal, the two mayors returned, and the removal of other Bureau of Jail Management and Penology officials.
— Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
