NWRB keeps increased Angat water allocation for June
The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) on Friday extended the increased allocation of 52 cubic meters per second (cms) of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) from the Angat-Ipo-La Mesa water system for the rest of June.
In a text message, NWRB Executive Director Sevillo David Jr. said the agency approved the MWSS’s request to continue the 52 cms allocation for June 16 to 30.
To recall, the water board decided to retain the 52 cms allocation for the MWSS - which has concession deals with Manila Water and Maynilad to serve the east and west zones of Metro Manila and nearby provinces - from June 1 to 15.
For June 16 to 30, however, the water allocation will ease to 50 cms.
MWSS Angat/Ipo Operations Management Division head Patrick James Dizon thanked the NWRB for extending the increased water allocation for the rest of the month.
Dizon said the decision averted possible water service interruptions which could have affected hundreds of thousands of water consumers.
“With the same commitment that we promised to NWRB nung unang inapprove yung 52 cms nung April 16 na no interruption on the areas na sinusupplyan ng Angat Dam, we have presented to NWRB the impact if ever di ma-extend ‘yung 52 cms, which is water interruption on 632,000 water service connections,” he said.
Maynilad, likewise, said that at 52 cms allocation it “will be able to sustain normal service levels in our concession area and prevent service disruptions due to a supply shortfall from our main raw water source.”
“We continue to pursue our augmentation projects so that more supply can be generated from alternate sources,” Maynilad said.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
