Japanese woman nabbed for alleged illegal recruitment activities

A Japanese national was arrested in Las Piñas City for alleged illegal recruitment activities.

According to John Consulta's Tuesday report on "24 Oras," the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Anti-Human Trafficking Division nabbed Yumi Yape Cirera for illegally recruiting individuals to work in Japan in exchange for money.

“Ang pinapangako niyang trabaho sa Japan ay caregiving at factory worker. Sinasabi niya na may lola siya sa Japan at makakatulong na i-receive ang employees,” said NBI Deputy Spokesperson Attorney Getrude Paris-Manadeg.

However, the NBI discovered that the suspect wasnot registered with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and had no recruiting license.

“Fi-filean siya ng violation ng illegal recruitment law at estafa doon sa mga pera na tinanggap niya in consideration sa promise niya of employment sa ating mga kababayan,” said Manadeg.

With this, the NBI reminded those who want to work abroad to verify the licensed agencies online and not transact with just any individual.

It was also better to visit their office to see if the company had a recruiting license to avoid recruitment scams. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
