Several detainees who escaped from Pasay jail rearrested –police

Four of the 10 detainees who broke out of the Malibay Detention Facility in Pasay City have been rearrested, the Southern Police District (SPD) said Monday.

The rearrested persons under police custody (PUPCs) are:

  • Joey Hernandez
  • Eden Garcia
  • Tirzo Galit
  • Joshua Panganiban

The police are offering a P100,000 reward for each of the escaped PUPCs.

The detainees escaped from the detention facility in Barangay 152, Malibay, Pasay City early Monday morning, according to the SPD.

The detainees managed to break the iron bar of the main facility at around 4:30 a.m. They then mauled the duty jailer and took his service firearm, cash, and jail keys.

The SPD identified the fugitives as:

  • Richard Dela Cruz (Violation of RA 9165);
  • Carlo Magno Benavidez y Legaspi (Violation of RA 9165)
  • Christian Salvatierra y Samson (Violation of RA 9165)
  • Norman Deyta y Punzalan (Violation of RA 9165)
  • Romeo Estopa y Marasigan (Robbery)
  • John Michael Cabe y Medellin (Carnapping)

Different units of the Pasay City Police Station are conducting a manhunt operation for the escaped inmates.

SPD chief Police Brigadier General Kirby Kraft encouraged the public to coordinate with the nearest police station if they have information on the PUPCs.

“Maari rin po ninyo itong ireport sa mga numerong (You can also report to these numbers): 09568005277 (Globe), 09985987922 (Smart) PASAY TOC at DTOC sa numerong 09173661036,” he said.

Detainees took advantage of Holy Week

Meanwhile, Police Colonel Froilan Uy, Pasay City Police Chief, said the detainees might have taken advantage of the deployment of the police force in other areas in preparation for the Holy Week.

“Nagkulang tayo ng tao, kaya siguro nakita nila, pagod na yung pulis iyon na. Kaya nga sabi ko kay kung kulang kayo sa tao magsabi kayo kaya naman naming mag-adjust,” said Uy on Cedric Castillo’s report on “24 Oras”.

(We're short of manpower. They might have seen that the cops there are already tired. That’s why I told the commanders that they can tell me if they need more people and we will adjust.)

Malibay Police Sub-Station Commander Police Major Jerry Sunga has since been sacked while the city jailer may face charges over the incident.

Uy called on the detainees to voluntarily surrender to the police to avoid additional cases of evasion.

“Itutuloy siyempre yung kaso kasi nagulo na buong Pilipinas dahil sa kanila. Magaan naman penalty dyan. Pwede silang umamin na nabuyo lang sila,” he said.

(We will continue because we’re on chaos because of this. The penalty for them will be light. They can just say they were provoked.)— With Sundy Locus/DVM, GMA Integrated News
