Maynilad: Expect 19 hours daily water interruption starting April 1

Some residents in Metro Manila and Cavite province will experience up to nineteen hours of water service interruption in a day starting Saturday, April 1, 2023.

According to Mariz Umali's report on "24 Oras," the residents of Barangay 570, Sampaloc, Manila were immediately notified that they would experience longer hours of water interruption starting tomorrow, from 4 p.m. to 6 a.m.

“Kaya rin tayo nagkaroon ng daily interruption is because konti ‘yung pumapasok na volume ng raw water sa Novaliches Portal. Dito nangyayari ‘yung split between the concessionaires,” said Jennifer Rufo, AVP Corporate Communications, Maynilad.

(We have daily [water service] interruption because there is a lower volume of raw water entering the Novaliches Portal where the split among concessionaires occur.)

“Ang dapat na nakakarating na volumes sa Novaliches Portal ay 4000 million liters per day unfortunately in recent months nakikita we’ve been getting less than 4000 million liters per day,” she added.

Meanwhile, water concessionaires Manila Water and Maynilad asked The National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to increase their water allocation to 52 cubic meters per second (CMS).

"Ang board sa ngayon po, have decided to grant the amount of volume to around 50 cubic meters per second for the period April 1 to 15. This will allow La Mesa Dam and Ipo Dam to recover at a comfortable level and support the water supply for Metro Manila," said NWRB Executive Director Dr. Sevillo David.

The NWRB has also called on the public to continue to conserve water.

Maynilad, meanwhile, asked for understanding from their customers and said that the water interruption of up to nineteen hours is only a worst-case scenario. -- Sherylin Untalan/BAP, GMA Integrated News
