QC offers free neutering of cats, dogs as part of anti-rabies efforts

Quezon City government is offering free neutering and spaying for cats and dogs on top of free anti-rabies vaccination as part of its Anti-Rabies Month activities.

According to Lei Alviz’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, QC Animal Care and Disease Control Division chief Dr. Rey Delnapoles said “pet overpopulation” was one of the issues that need to be resolved.

“One of the biggest problems that we have right now is pet overpopulation. We need to solve the problem by getting them all fixed,”  Delnapoles said.

Free neutering and anti-rabies vaccination is being offered at the Quezon City Hall on March 6, 13, 20, and 30.

Data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed there are a total of 43 rabies cases in the country from January 1 to February 18, 2023.

“Rabies is 100% fatal lalo na kung di nag-seek ng medical intervention ang taong nakagat ng aso o pusa na may rabies,” the city official added.

(Rabies is 100% fatal if the victim did not seek  medical intervention.)

Individuals who will be bitten by animals are advised to seek help from hospitals or animal bite centers.

“Ang ating laging sinasabi sa ating mga kababayan na unang-una kung tayo ay nag-aalaga ng mga hayop, we become responsible pet owners,” DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said.
