Valenzuela LGU orders utility firms to fix ‘spaghetti wires’

Valenzuela City has required telecommunications companies and internet service providers to put in order wires and cables that have been tangled in posts on the streets.

According to Jun Veneracion's report on "24 Oras", the local government unit came up with the directive after a motorcycle rider got caught in some of the cables.

The city required the utilities to assign personnel who would for three times a week clean up the tangles in the wires and cables.

“Kung hindi ho nila naayos ang kable na yun at lalong lalo na kung may na-aksidente, bibigyan po natin ng malaking penalty po itong utility companies natin,” said Valenzuela City Mayor Wes Gatchalian.

(If they don't fix the cables and there is an accident, we will penalize our utility companies.)

Meanwhile, apart from accidents, Vic Esteban, the Head of Valenzuela Water Supply and Other Utilities, said the cable wires could also cause a fire.

“Ang panganib siguro niyan is pagka merong natalupan na kawad, sigurado sunog lahat yun at pwede rin mag cause ng sunog,” he said.

Some LGUs have previously issued orders to tighten against "spaghetti" wires, such as Quezon City, San Juan City, and Cebu City. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
