Like those of traditional jeeps, UV express franchises to expire by June 30, 2023

Aside from traditional jeepneys, thousands of UV express vans, and multicabs are also expected to ply their routes for the last time on June 30.

According to Joseph Morong's report on "24 Oras", the public utility vehicle program of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory board also covered UV express units and multicabs.

An estimated 4,000 UV express operators in Metro Manila may be affected.

The LTFRB said an individual operator may join a corporation or cooperative until June 30 for his or her franchise to be extended to December 31.

To modernize, UV express units are supposed to switch from vans to mini buses.

Being part of a cooperative or corporation is also meant to help UV express operator afford the bigger or more expensive mini buses. —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
