MMC head Zamora eyes dry run for single ticketing system

Metro Manila Council (MMC) President and San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora on Thursday said he wants to conduct a dry run for the implementation of the single ticketing system in the National Capital Region (NCR).

“I will also suggest to the body to have a trial period for the public. Kumbaga papagawa tayo ng dry run upang kapag nagkaroon na ng actual implementation ay alam na at intindido na ng ating publiko tungkol dito sa single ticketing system,” Zamora said in an interview on GMA News’ Unang Balita.

(I will also suggest to the body to have a trial period for for the single ticketing system. We will conduct a dry run so that during the actual implementation, the public will already know how this system works.)

According to Zamora, they will also have an information campaign to ensure that the public are well informed about the new system.

In a separate interview on Unang Balita, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairperson Romando Artes said they will fully implement the single ticketing system if the traffic enforcers are ready.

“Kapag sa tingin natin ay handa naman po yung [local government units] traffic enforcers at MMDA traffic enforcers, baka i-implement na po natin kaagad,” he said.

(If we think that local government and MMDA traffic enforcers are all ready, we may implement the single ticketing system right away.)

“Although, may birth pangs po siguro ito kapag implementation. Maga-adjust naman po tayo depende sa situation,” he added.

(Although, there might be birth pangs with its implementation. We would adjust depending on the situation.)

On Wednesday, Zamora said the single ticketing system in NCR will start within April after the MMC approved Metro Manila Traffic Code of 2023, which will serve as the guideline for the new system.

Concerned LGUs have to amend their respective ordinances in connection with traffic policies before March 15.

The single ticketing system aims to establish a uniform policy on traffic violations and penalty system in Metro Manila.

It would cover Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Taguig, Makati, Manila, Mandaluyong, San Juan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, and Pateros. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
